Description

The Constitution of Greece, enacted in 1975, establishes the country as a parliamentary republic founded on popular sovereignty. Since its promulgation, the Constitution has undergone several amendments to address evolving political and social needs, with significant revisions in 1986, 2001, 2008, and 2019. Article 5, Paragraph 2 establishes all persons living within the Greek territory shall enjoy full protection of their life, honour and liberty irrespective of nationality, race or language and of religious or political beliefs. Exceptions shall be permitted only in cases provided by international law.
