About RiMAP

UNHCR's Rights Mapping and Analysis Platform (RiMAP) aims to help legal practitioners, policymakers, researchers and humanitarian and development actors to understand how legal and policy frameworks affect forcibly displaced and stateless people’s access to rights. 

RiMAP collects and analyzes international and domestic laws and policies, applying a structured methodology based around eleven ‘rights categories’: Asylum; Documentation; Education; Family Life; Freedom of Movement; Health; Housing, Land & Property; Liberty & Security of Person; Nationality, Integration & Public Affairs; Social Protection; and Work & Workplace Rights. 

RiMAP’s methodology facilitates a structured and comprehensive assessment of how national legal frameworks provide access to rights and solutions, and to what extent these align with international standards. 

RiMAP is currently under development, with new content regularly added.

  • Governance & Legal System: provides a summary of a country’s governance, legal and judicial systems, including any memberships of international or regional organisations 
  • International Instruments: provides information on a country’s participation in key international and regional legal instruments relevant to forcibly displaced and stateless people
  • Laws and Policies: lists domestic instruments relevant to forcibly displaced and stateless people, categorised by ‘rights category’
  • Analysis: sets out a structured methodology for assessing how domestic laws and policies effect access to rights in each category. Responses to these questions are being added progressively, with analysis under the Asylum category the most advanced.
