UNHCR leads and coordinates international efforts to protect forcibly displaced and stateless persons. Central to this mission is assessing how national legal frameworks align with international standards. To support these efforts, the Rights Mapping and Analysis Platform (RiMAP) provides a methodology for collecting and analyzing domestic laws and policies, focusing on eleven specific right categories: Asylum, Documentation, Education, Family Life, Freedom of Movement, Health, Housing, Land & Property, Liberty & Security of Person, Nationality & Facilitated Naturalization, Social Protection, and Work & Workplace Rights.
RiMAP is an online platform that provides country-specific information on access to rights and solutions for forcibly displaced and stateless persons. It maps international legal instruments, domestic laws and policies and offers analysis of these laws and their implementation. Through its research and country-specific insights, RiMAP aims to illuminate the legal context for refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons. This enables the identification of gaps in law and practice, and promotes law and policy reforms to enhance protection.
Key components of RiMAP are the Refugee Treaty and Legislation Dashboard and the IDP Law and Policy Dashboard, which present essential data on treaties and national legislation relevant to refugees and internally displaced persons. A similar database for stateless persons is under development.
To explore rights by country, select a right category and then choose a country. RiMAP is being released in phases; currently, access to national laws and policies is available only under the Asylum category.
