Agricultural Cooperatives Establishment Directive No. 001, Federal Cooperative Agency
Year: 2022
Type: Domestic law
Rights Category: Work & Workplace rights
Description
Article 11 of the Directive states that ten or more individuals engaged in agricultural work can establish cooperative society without any requirement of nationality for membership. The Directive does not prohibit refugees from membership in such cooperatives. Article 26 (5) of the 2019 Refugee Proclamation asserts that the use of agricultural and irrigable lands shall be made in accordance with national land use laws, and in agreement with regional states using a land lease system, subject to the payment of lease price, for a period renewable every seven years without prejudice to Article 26(4) of the 2019 Refugee Proclamation. In addition, the Directive to Determine the Procedure for Refugees Right to Work also provides that refugees or asylum seekers and Ethiopians shall participate in projects related to agricultural and irrigation works on the basis of lease arrangements agreed upon between RRS and the Regional Government where the project is to be implemented.
