Directive to Implement the Preferential Investment Facilitation and Property Acquisition Agreement between Ethiopia and Djibouti, Directive No. 1/2008

Year: 2008

Type: Domestic law

Rights Category: Housing, land & property

Description

The Directive is issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The Government of Ethiopia (GoE) has granted favorable treatment to certain categories of foreigners based on bilateral and multilateral treaties, political agreements, and other domestic laws on the basis of legislative reciprocity. Preferential rights are accorded to these foreign nationals on condition that reciprocal rights are granted by the respective country to Ethiopian nationals. Therefore, the Directive is issued to Implement the Preferential Investment Facilitation and Property Acquisition Agreement between Ethiopia and Djibouti and grants Djiboutian nationals in Ethiopia preferential rights than ordinary foreigners. Some of the rights in the 1951 Refugee Convention and the Refugees Proclamation set in comparison to the rights of national and/or foreigners. The Directive would be relevant to interpret and analyze the rights of refugees vis-à-vis Djiboutian that are entitled to preferential treatment.
