Description

The Local Government Act (2018) serves as the legislative instrument to implement the key provisions outlined in the National Policy on Decentralization and Local Governance. This policy was officially endorsed and introduced by the Government of Liberia on January 5, 2012. The overarching objective of both the policy and the accompanying law is to facilitate decentralization within the government structure, thereby fostering increased citizen engagement in decision-making processes and policy formulation at the local level. This decentralized approach is envisaged as a fundamental strategy for bolstering democracy and advancing socioeconomic development initiatives.
