Description

Law 12/2009 of 30 October 2009, regulating the law  of asylum and subsidiary protection establishes the legal framework for granting asylum and subsidiary protection in Spain, providing guidelines for recognizing refugee status and offering protection to individuals at risk of serious harm. It outlines the eligibility criteria for asylum seekers, including those facing persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Subsidiary protection is extended to individuals who do not meet the strict criteria for asylum but who face a real risk of serious harm, such as torture or threats to life, if returned to their country of origin.
