Description

The purpose of this law is to stipulate the legal status and ensure the legal security of foreigners who come to or leave the country, apply for a residence permit or stay in this country in accordance with the law. Furthermore, the purpose of this law is to authorize the control of the arrival of foreigners in the country, the stay of foreigners here and their departure from the country. This law provides a basis for the international protection of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have that right according to the international obligations of the Icelandic government.
