Description
Oman’s Basic Statute of the State—promulgated in 1996 and amended in 2011—functions as the Sultanate’s de facto constitution. It opens by defining Oman as an independent, Islamic, hereditary sultanate whose legal order is grounded in Sharia and Arabic language. It then lays down the core principles that guide state policy.
