This decree olays down the detailed features for Mauritania’s new electronic, biometric passports. It also prescribes the cover texts and “please assist” requests in Arabic, French and English for ordinary, service, diplomatic and Geneva Convention travel documents. Finally, it entrusts the Interior Minister with sole authority to issue, renew or extend identity-and-travel documents (including visas of return) for refugees and stateless persons.
