Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz - AsylbL
Year: 1993
Type: Domestic law
Rights Category: Asylum, Health, Social protection
Description
The Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act G) governs the provision of essential benefits to asylum seekers and other foreign nationals who are not yet fully integrated into the social welfare system. Enacted in 1993, the AsylbLG outlines the types of assistance available to individuals who are awaiting a decision on their asylum application, those who have temporary protection, or those whose deportation is temporarily suspended. The AsylbLG provides for basic needs such as food, housing, clothing, healthcare, and personal care items. These benefits are typically provided in-kind or, in some cases, as financial allowances, depending on the individual's circumstances and the administrative structure of the region in which they reside. The Act ensures that asylum seekers receive a minimum standard of living while their legal status is being determined. The law also specifies that medical care under the AsylbLG is limited to acute illnesses and pain relief, as well as necessary vaccinations and preventive medical check-ups. However, in cases of pregnancy or childbirth, more comprehensive medical care is provided.
