Description
The Immigration and Nationality Act establishes the United States’ legal framework for determining who may enter, reside in, or be removed from the country, defining visa categories, admission requirements, grounds for inadmissibility and deportation, as well as procedures for refugee resettlement, asylum claims, and the processes by which lawful permanent residents and non‐citizens can adjust status or naturalize as U.S. citizens. It incorporates the Refugee Act of 1980—enacted as an amendment to the INA—to create the refugee asylum framework.
