Description
The Constitution of Timor-Leste establishes the country as a sovereign, democratic, and unitary state governed by the rule of law. Article 10 of the Constitution states that the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste shall grant political asylum, in accordance with the law, to individuals from foreign countries who face persecution for their efforts in pursuing national and social liberation, defending human rights, democracy, and peace.
