Description
The Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees and Other Academic Qualifications in Higher Education in African States (also known as the Addis Convention, revised in 2014) is a UNESCO-led treaty aimed at promoting academic mobility and cooperation across African countries. It establishes a framework for the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications—such as degrees, diplomas, and certificates—among African states.
The Convention encourages African countries to adopt transparent, fair, and non-discriminatory recognition procedures, enabling students, teachers, and professionals to pursue further education or employment across borders. It also supports quality assurance, comparability of qualifications, and harmonization of higher education systems in Africa.
The Convention replaced the original 1981 Arusha Convention and reflects current trends in higher education, including regional integration and global standards.
