Inclusive Education Policy
Year: 2018
Type: Domestic policy
Rights Category: Education
Description
The Inclusive Education Policy of Liberia, developed by the Ministry of Education, reflects the country's commitment to ensuring that all learners—regardless of ability, background, or circumstance—have access to quality education. Grounded in national and international legal frameworks, the policy promotes systemic change across the education sector through the principles of universal design. This includes adapting policies, curricula, teaching methods, infrastructure, and assessment to accommodate diverse learning needs.
The policy outlines seven overarching objectives, aligned with Liberia’s “Getting to Best Education Sector Plan 2017–2021”, and is supported by a forthcoming implementation plan. Developed through broad stakeholder consultation, its core aim is to build an inclusive, equitable, and responsive education system that fosters national development and protects the rights and potential of every child.
