UNHCR is responsible to lead and coordinate international efforts to protect forcibly displaced and stateless persons. Central to this mission is assessing how national legal frameworks align with international standards. In support of these efforts, the Rights Mapping and Analysis Platform (RiMAP) provides a methodology to collect and analyze domestic laws and policies, focusing on eleven specific right categories: Asylum, Documentation, Education, Family Life, Freedom of Movement, Health, Housing, Land & Property, Liberty & Security of Person, Nationality & Facilitated Naturalization, Social Protection, and Work & Workplace Rights.

RiMAP is an online platform providing, for each country, information on access to rights and solutions for forcibly displaced and stateless persons, mapping international legal instruments, domestic laws and policies and an analysis of these laws and policies and their implementation. Through its research and country-specific responses, RiMAP aims to shed light on the legal context for refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons, enabling the identification of gaps in law and practice, thereby promoting law and policy reforms to better protect forcibly displaced and stateless persons.

Key components of RiMAP are the Refugee Treaty and Legislation Dashboard and the IDP Law and Policy Dashboard, which contain fundamental data on treaties and national legislation relevant to refugees and internally displaced persons. A similar database for stateless persons is under development.

To explore the content of these rights by country, click on a right, then select a country. RiMAP is being released in phases, and for now, you can only have access to national laws and policies under Asylum.
