The People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Bangladesh) is located in Asia, in the South Asia sub‑region. It shares land borders with India to the north, west and east, and with Myanmar to the southeast, and has a coastline along the Bay of Bengal to the south. The capital city is Dhaka, which serves as the seat of government. Bangladesh is a unitary State with a parliamentary system of government. Executive authority is exercised by a government led by a prime minister, while legislative authority is vested in a national parliament.
