The Republic of Cameroon (Cameroon) is located in Africa, in the Central Africa sub‑region. It lies along the Gulf of Guinea and shares land borders with Nigeria to the west, Chad to the northeast, the Central African Republic to the east, and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo to the south. The capital city is Yaoundé, which is the seat of government and hosts the main national institutions. Cameroon is a unitary State with a presidential system of government, in which executive authority is exercised by a president and legislative authority is vested in a national parliament. 

Cameroon is party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees. It is not party to the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons or the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. Cameroon is party to the 1969 OAU Convention governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa and to the 2009 African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention).
