The Republic of Kazakhstan, commonly known as Kazakhstan, is located in Central Asia and extends into eastern Europe, bordered by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, with a coastline on the Caspian Sea. Its capital, Astana, is the seat of government. Kazakhstan is a unitary state with a presidential system of government. 

Kazakhstan is party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees. It is not party to the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
