The Republic of the Niger, commonly known as Niger, is a landlocked country in West Africa bordered by Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali. Its capital, Niamey, is the main administrative centre. Niger is a unitary state with a semi-presidential system of government, where executive authority is shared between a president and a government led by a prime minister. 

Niger is party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees, the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. Niger is also party to the 1969 OAU Convention governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa and to the 2009 African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention).
