Analysis

Lebanon's legal framework for asylum-seekers includes Article 26 of the 1962 Law on Entry and Exit. This article provides that any foreign national who is being prosecuted or has been convicted by a non-Lebanese authority for a political offence, or whose life or liberty is threatened for political reasons, may request the right of political asylum in Lebanon. Article 26 of the 1962 Law on Entry and Exit references Lebanon's Penal Code for the definition of "political crime" but does not establish a clear procedure for applying for asylum.
