Description

This law establishes a framework for non-Slovak citizens—defined as anyone who is not a Slovak national—by setting out (a) the requirements and conditions governing their entry into Slovakia, (b) the rules for their legal residence within the country, (c) the issuance of necessary residence and travel documents, and (d) the obligations of aliens as well as other individuals and entities in relation to entry and residence. It also details (e) procedures for registering and tracking foreigners’ whereabouts; (f) grounds and processes for administratively expelling an alien; (g) conditions under which an alien may be detained and placed in a designated facility; (h) rules for police-escorted transit of aliens through Slovak territory; and (i) the offenses and administrative violations tied to unlawful entry or residence. Moreover, it applies equally to asylum seekers, recognized refugees, and holders of temporary residence permits, unless another statute provides otherwise.
