Description

This Law creates the Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment, with the purpose of protecting the fundamental and human rights of persons subjected to any form of deprivation of liberty and preventing any act of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, through the execution of regular inspections of centers of apprehension, detention and deprivation of liberty.

Article 1- Scope

The Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención contra la Tortura y otros Tratos o Penas Crueles, Inhumanos y Degradantes (National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment) is created, as established in the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture, with the purpose of protecting the fundamental and human rights of persons subjected to any form of deprivation of liberty and preventing any act of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, through the execution of regular inspections of centers of apprehension, detention and deprivation of liberty.
