Description
This law governs the recognition, protection, and administration of refugee affairs in Puntland. It aligns with international refugee conventions, including the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1969 OAU Convention.
Selected provisions
Recognized refugees shall have the right to seek employment in accordance with the applicable labor laws of Puntland.
1. Upon death, divorce, separation, or detention of the
Refugee every person who immediately before such
death, divorce, separation or detention was within
Puntland as a Dependent or Member of the family of such
Refugee shall be permitted to continue to remain within
Puntland.

2. Notwithstanding the above provision any Dependent or
Member of the family of a Refugee may apply for refugee
status as prescribed in the Law
Where appropriate, the Refugee Affairs Department will facilitate the assimilation and naturalization of refugees. The assimilation and naturalization of refugees is a discretionary decision of the Minister, which may be made in consultation with his legal advisor and the Parliament.
